Many people need some form of radiation therapy during their cancer treatment.
Better Care Through Advanced Technology and Research
The world-renowned radiation oncology specialists at Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center are pioneers in improving both radiation treatments and patient outcomes. We created one of the first radiation oncology departments in the country, and are dedicated to ensuring patients have access to the optimal treatment options for their care.
Our radiation team is driven to continue leading innovations in care, developing new approaches, machinery and techniques to improve the outcomes of cancer treatments that preserve healthy tissue and ensure top quality of life for our patients. We continually monitor how our patients who are treated with cutting-edge therapy respond over time, and are researching ways to use radiation therapy to further improve treatment for many cancers, including:
-
Brain tumors
-
Head and neck cancers
-
Gynecologic/pelvic malignancies
We were the first hospital in New York State to treat patients with the Radixact® Treatment Delivery System. Radixact® delivers image-guided intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IG-IMRT)—a form of EBRT. We also have a Halcyon™ 2.0 radiation therapy system which enables enhanced imaging and faster treatment times compared to its predecessor.
Versatile, Trusted Radiation Treatment
EBRT is the most common type of radiation treatment for cancer. This therapy uses sophisticated machines to precisely aim and deliver high doses of radiation, deactivating cancer cells and shrinking tumors.
EBRT machines can:
-
Work from outside your body
-
Move around you without touching your body
-
Deliver daily high-dose radiation treatments over the course of several weeks
There are different types of EBRT, including stereotactic radiation therapy and radiotherapy.
