Many types of cancer are treated with surgery or a combination of surgery and other cancer treatments.
Leaders in Cancer Surgery Techniques
We use state-of-the-art imaging technology during surgery to assess tumors with more certainty and adjust your treatment if necessary. We are constantly exploring how to best use robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques to improve treatment and recovery for our patients. We also use robotic and minimally invasive techniques for cancer diagnosis and staging to determine how advanced your cancer is, as well as precise tumor treatment and improved pain relief.
About Cancer Surgery
Surgery is a treatment option for many types of cancer, and is also often used in combination with other cancer treatments, like radiation therapy or chemotherapy. During cancer surgery, surgeons use tools to remove as much of the cancerous tumors and affected tissue as possible.
The surgical techniques performed at Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center can be highly specialized to the type and location of cancer. Montefiore Einstein is one of only a few centers in the New York metropolitan area that performs endoscopic larynx surgery for advanced-stage larynx cancer, which helps preserve the voice and ability to swallow. We are one of a small number of U.S. facilities capable of performing advanced surgery for tumors at the base of the skull. Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center is also one of a select group of centers involved in the Fluorescence Guided Surgery Clinical Trial, minimizing lumpectomy size by effectively marking cancer cells for complete removal.
In addition to surgery, they may supplement your treatment to further eliminate or minimize the size of the tumor using the following:
