Liver Cancer Prevention
At Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, we’re focused on preventing cancer from ever starting and catching it as early as possible, when treatment is easiest and most effective.
Liver cancer prevention is the goal of our world-renowned gastrointestinal oncology team as well as Montefiore Einstein’s multidisciplinary Liver Program, which provides a single source of psychosocial support, nutritional guidance, advice on surgical needs (including transplantation), medical management and more. Our multidisciplinary experts provide care for people concerned about preventing liver cancer and other liver-related issues under one roof.
There are many things you can do to lower your chances of getting liver cancer. Preventing and treating Hepatitis B and C infections is an important first step. Our Starfish Program—a partnership with Hep Free NYC—is specifically designed to educate at-risk people within our community about hepatitis B and to encourage screening.
Quitting smoking and moderating alcohol use also lowers your risk of developing liver cancer. You can also lower your risk by understanding your family health history, choosing healthy nutrition and adding exercise to your daily routine.
It’s important to identify liver cancer in its earliest stage. Getting a liver cancer screening can help. For more than 50 years, Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center has been a leader in the research, diagnosis and treatment of over 200 types of cancer.
