Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency
The Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency Program at Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center includes a sub-specialty of therapeutic radiologic physics and provides structured training and progress assessment in all aspects of clinical therapeutic radiation oncology physics.
A Rigorous Program of Excellence
The Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency is a two-year training program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational Programs (CAMPEP). You learn under the supervision of Albert Einstein College of Medicine faculty who are board-certified medical physicists within the Department of Radiation Oncology. Our curriculum is built upon a structured clinical environment.
During your medical physics training, you gain:
- An understanding of topics from the American Board of Radiology study guides
- Competency in codes of ethics in professional practice
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills related to clinical practice decision-making
- In-depth professional training and comprehensive exposure to the science and technology of therapeutic radiologic physics
At the end of your residency, you are fully prepared for the American Board of Radiology in therapeutic radiology physics certification exam.
Our advanced residency in therapeutic medical physics is highly selective. We accept one or two residents each year.
To qualify for our Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency, you must demonstrate a strong foundation in basic physics.
You can do this with:
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in physics from a CAMPEP-accredited graduate program
- A degree in an engineering discipline or another physical science, plus coursework equivalent to a minor in physics
- A PhD in physics or related field plus completion of a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program.
Before starting your residency, you must obtain a New York State limited-permit license in medical physics. The limited license allows you to practice therapeutic medical physics only under the supervision of fully licensed faculty member or provider.
